This summer is going to be full of light, fluffy, nonsensical stories and I’m entirely here for it. Too Fast to Fall is not winning any awards by any means, but it certainly does check all the boxes for fluff and light-hearted romance. If you’re looking for mindless, warm, easy reading and are a sucker for a romantic plot, here’s one for you.
Piper is an average girl coming fresh off of heartbreak and just trying to find her joy again. Emilio is dealing with his own failed relationship and to top it all off, can’t find a dog sitter who gets along with his best boy, Gus, and can accommodate his busy jet-setting, driver lifestyle. These two wouldn’t meet in ordinary circumstances, but Emilio’s desperate need to find care for his dog leaves him in a pinch, and Piper is there to save the day.
This story is fast-paced, very sweet, and nothing but pure distraction. There isn’t anything that’s very realistic, but that’s to be expected in a romance novel. We’re not in it for the realism! The first book in this series, Not so Fast, I’d say is the better of the two books, with a much more appealing story line. While Piper is a positive character, I did find her to be lacking in terms of overall appeal as a character. It’s a bit hard to see what drives the attraction between her and Emilio as she doesn’t really bring anything to the table. There are also some dog POV chapters that didn’t really do it for me.
Overall, it was good, but not great. Would I read it again? Probably not, but it was easy, mindless, and brings the escapism which is a win IMO.
