Welcome to Funky Cover Friday! Each week I choose a cover or series of covers that I love and have influenced my decision to read (or in some cases, not to read) a book and/or series. This week I’d like to showcase Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I recently finished reading Dreams of Gods and Monsters and I’m sad to be finished with this series. I generally stay away from covers with faces because I find that too typical for a young adult novel. HOWEVER in the case of Taylor’s series, I find these covers, especially in sequence, to be very striking. I love the way that the figures in each establish intense eye contact with the reader. They alluring and give you reason to pause and take a second look. I also love that these covers appear so textured. Not only the images, but the fonts themselves evoke texture and feeling, making me want to pick each up and experience it in a tangible and tactile way. If you haven’t read this series, I’m all about it right now, and I strongly suggest that you give them a shot! You won’t be disaapointed.
