Synopsis:
The price of love is loss.We all pay it eventually…In every life…Some moments are too painful to be endured. Some moments will break you if you let them. And yet I can’t afford to let anything break me. Because we have one chance to win this war. One chance to create a better life for everyone across the four kingdoms. Even as our enemies ally with each other, and our own allies are forced to betray their kingdoms, their people…and themselves. And even as Regner plans something so cruel, so wholly evil, he’s poised to douse the last remaining spark of hope in this world. Unless we kill him first.

This fabulous conclusion to the Kingdom of Lies series sees the culmination of books work of politics, torture, power, loss, grief, trauma, and so many other terrible and difficult scenarios for the characters. It brings together the tension that’s been building continuously to this climax so large it could shake the earth. Stark brings her story to an epic end where characters are slaughtered and victory is a foregone conclusion. It was both gripping and difficult to get through as hope ebbed away bit by bit.

Still, without giving anything away, I’m still here and I made it to the end of the book feeling wonderfully satisfied and happy with this series that seemingly fell into my lap from nowhere. While I’ve struggled a bit with Pris, seeing her rise into her role as the hybrid heir and the feat she achieved of uniting so many people across her realm, convinced me of her strength, capabilities, and penchant to love deeply and full-heartedly.

Listening to the audiobooks of the entire series, I’d highly recommend. Both female and male readers are excellent and engaged. The pacing is well done and both readers have a way of enticing you in and making the world around disappear. It was well worth the listen, and for a mom on the go, it made it easier to fit this book into my walks, exercise, and cleaning.

Once again, another series comes to a finale and I’m on the hunt to find more books to add to my to-read list. Any suggestions for what I should look at next?

Happy reading!
