Synopsis:
Without my sister, the world seems darker than ever before and the shadows loom thicker, rising up to answer the call of the Shadow Princess and changing the face of Solaria for good. Now Lionel Acrux has the strength to make a move for the throne, I’m not sure how much time we have left to stop him. Our only hope is to find the Imperial Star before he does. We made the sacrifice the stars called for and we’re paying the price for that decision so it can’t be for nothing. But with the stars turning against us at every move, and the last light in the world seeming to fade, I’m afraid we’re almost out of time. Hope is a dangerous thing. It’s the key to us fighting on. But it could be what destroys us in the end.
The Zodiac Academy series continues to deliver, ripping out my heart at every twist and turn, and running the characters through torturous and heart-stopping scenarios with each passing chapter. I’ve never read such an intense series as this, and I’m happy to be swept away into this fantasy world of dark magic, fate, and resilience.
How Peckham and Valenti manage to pull together so many ominous twists is astounding. Nothing seems to go right for the characters in this book, to the point that sometimes it’s difficult to continue. I need to put the book in the freezer in a really great way. I’m hooked and can’t look away as the authors continue to toy with my heart and my emotions. I find myself coming back again and again in the hopes that the characters of the Zodiac Academy will triumph. They deserve nothing but good things after the horrible fate that the stars have subjected them to. One day, good will triumph over evil, and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
This book will have your heart in your throat constantly. After a horrific ending to the previous book, and a rocky start to this one, there is finally a bit of light and hope for us–and the characters–to hold on to. With that bit of shining light, there is a sense that perhaps the characters can triumph over the darkness and bring piece to the kingdom of Solaria. Told from a variety of perspectives, the reader gets to know not only the Vega princess, but the heirs, Lance Orion, and even the antagonist, Lionel Acrux. The different voices reveal the motivations of the various characters and weave together the differing perspectives that bring this world together.
It continues to be an engaging series with twists and turns that I can’t even begin to predict. I’m nearing the end and that is saddening, but with a series of .5 books to return to, this expansive world still offers so much more.
Happy reading!
