Synopsis:
The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm. Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them.
As Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makesit to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

I’ve been reading the Flesh and Fire and Blood and Ash series in tandem as my library holds have come available and it’s been an absolute whirlwind so far. I do have to say, I am in absolute awe of Armentrout’s ability to wear prophecy, lore, history, and ancestry together over two very complex series. It’s masterful.
Her world building in both, and the continuity that she has spanning both series and multiple books, is magnificent. Though Flesh and Fire has been published after Blood and Ash, in the timeline, it actually takes place first so it’s interesting reading them and seeing how much the two books actually are able to reference one another. This world is immense and beautiful. It is ripe with magic, ancient and primal. There is so much corruption. Characters who you’d think are good are not, and those who should be evil are often the ones with the greatest kindnesses in their hearts.
It’s killing me that I have to wait another two months before I get the next book in either series. I’m waiting with bated breath. I know, without a doubt, that I will have to buy this particular series when it comes out in a box set. I’m absolutely swept away by Sera and her story. She’s an incredible character and I’m so excited to see where her story goes in the next book. With the final book out this August, I’m reading these at just the right time.
Happy reading!
