Synopsis:
Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to get back to normal-they may have saved Crescent City, but with so much upheaval in their lives lately, they mostly want a chance to relax. Slow down. Figure out what the future holds. The Asteri have kept their word so far, leaving Bryce and Hunt alone. But with the rebels chipping away at the Asteri’s power, the threat the rulers pose is growing. As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels’ plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what’s right. And they’ve never been very good at staying silent.

I’m 2 years late to this series, but having finished House of Sky and Breath only 10 days before the release of the third Crescent City novel, I cannot be more glad that I waiting this long to get into these books. I finished the ACOTAR series just over a week ago, perfectly positioning myself to delve further into Crescent City. For those of you who haven’t dabbled in the Maasverse just yet, definitely hold off reading these ones until you’ve at least read ACOTAR. I, myself, have yet to read Throne of Glass, but I was able to follow along just find with only ACOTAR under my belt.

House of Sky and Breath continues to follow Bryce and Hunt after the aftermath of book 1. Their lives are to continue in a quiet and relatively normal way, however, after Bryce made the Drop and came into her powers, everything is anything but normal. This book introduces so many new perspectives, included those of Tharion, the mer male who we were introduced to in book 1, as well as Ithan, the younger wolf brother of Connor who was killed in the previous novel. With a more diverse range of voices, I can see the wheels turning in Maas’ mind as she sets us up for what’s to come in this series.

Crescent City seems like a small universe for these characters to inhabit, but I can see that there’s so much more to discover beyond the surface of what’s been revealed so far. I think book 3 is going to be a total info dump and cathartic explosion of the tensions that have been building. Without spoilers, the end of House of Sky and Breathe gives us a peak into the epic mic drop that Maas has got to have poised in book 3. I cannot wait!

I am LOVING this exploration of the Maasverse that I’ve been on and I am so, so, so excited to say that I still have all of Throne of Glass to discover, plus my copy of House of Flame and Shadow to arrive at the end of January. EEEEEEE! You’ll be reading this after my copy arrives, but for now, can you feel the excitement? More to come. 😉

Happy reading!
