Synopsis from Goodreads:
When seventeen-year-old Skylar escapes the time-bending Enforcers who secretly control Earth, her troubles have just begun. She and her friend Win take refuge on Win’s home space station with his fellow rebels, but the fate of Skylar’s planet still spins out of her control. To avoid detection, Skylar poses as the Earthling “pet” of Win’s rival, an arrogant boy named Jule. Homesick and faced with a cool reception from the other rebels, she throws herself into the group’s mission: assembling a weapon to disable Earth’s restrictive time field. Gradually, Skylar’s skill for detail gains respect—even from Jule, who is more vulnerable than he lets on. Yet challenges spring from every side. Not only must Sky navigate the muddy waters of romance, but suspicions of betrayal grow among the rebels as their work narrowly misses sabotage.

Wow! What a thrilling second book to this series. I’m so glad my copy of book 3 just arrived in the mail because I can’t wait to keep powering through this story! I’d somewhat forgotten what occurred in book 1, but Crewe does an excellent job of bringing you right back into the story. Right away, she reminds us what happened and where things stand now. I finished this book in less than a day, that’s how excited I am about this! It’s been a while since I’ve read anything so quickly.
Skylar is one of my more favoured YA protagonists. She’s smart, determined, driven, compassionate, but she’s also so human, and that makes her absolutely crucial to this story. She can be impulsive, rash, quick to judge. She displays her humanness so clearly to us, the reader, bringing her to life in a place that restricts her for these emotions and attributes. I love this stark contrast, and I love how she brings out these same attribute in the Kemyites (?) who are close to her. Skylar is a catalyst for change on both the micro and the macro scales. She invites change on an intimate level, but she’s also incredible moved to alter the reality that faces all of human kind.
I won’t say more, as I don’t want to share any spoilers. You’ll be hearing from me again very soon with my thoughts on book 3! You can count on it!
