Synopsis:

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world. At least, he’s not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

Ahhhhh this book! I received the hardcover set as a Christmas gift from Mr. Worn Pages (drools — who doesn’t love a good hardcover box set), and immediately dove into ACOTAR. I’ve been itching to get my hands on these books and I couldn’t be more thrilled to finally be able to dive in head first. I could not be more pleased. I whipped through book one in less than two days, reading half of it in the car, travelling to see family, by light of my teeny-tiny book light. I can’t get enough.

Feyre is the perfect heroine that I would have loved to discover as a teenager. She’s everything I would have dreamed of being as I explored the fantasy worlds of Christopher Paolini and Tamora Pierce throughout my teen years. A huntress, a lady fallen from grace and desperate for the survival of her family, Feyre fights only to live. A single mistake on a hunt at the peak of her desperation changes her life forever. It is this mistake that leads her to Tamlin, the high fae lord of the Spring Court who is as beautiful as he is dangerous. Though she seems safe enough in his court, her devastating actions during her last hunt mean she cannot leave, bound to the Treaty between fae and humans until her dying breath.

To the fae as a whole, humans are barely more than dirt. To Tamlin and his emissary, Lucien, Feyre is much more than they ever expected from a human. They are constantly surprised by her tenacity and grit, her wit and cunning, and her secret eye for beauty and appreciation for art. Feyre is content for a while to learn what this new world has to offer. She allows herself to be swept up in its beauty and magic. Though it isn’t all as it seems.

There is so much that Feyre does not understand. There is a curse on the fae lands, a blight they call it, that has crippled their magic and is destroying the lands. There is so much that cannot be shared with Feyre and she must dig deep and use all of her resources to uncover what is going on, and what, if anything, can be done to fix it. Though she is merely human, Feyre may just be the only one who can truly make a difference in this beautiful and terrible world.

I’ve already started the second book in the series and I hope to get through it quickly. No spoilies please! 😉

Happy reading!
